Meyers, Mr. / Mrs. Herbert Sr. (Gold – 6 OCT 1965)

Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Meyers Sr. of route 2, Colby, marked their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, October 2, 1965 with a dinner at the First United Church of Christ, Colby, followed by a dance and open house at the Curtiss Community Hall.

About 100 guests were present at the dinner given in the couple’s son, Herbert Meyers Jr., Curtiss. The dinner was served by the ladies of the church. The church hall was adorned with candles and miniature bouquets of yellow and white flowers. The table was centered with a three-tier cake. Guests registered in a book presented by the couple’s grandchildren.

The Rev. Kenneth A. Dix gave an address following the dinner.

A corsage of yellow roses and white pompons was worn by Mrs. Meyers. Her husband wore a boutonniere of yellow carnations with gold leaf.

Many relatives and friends attended the open house following the dinner. Cards were played and music was provided for dancing.

Helen Schlogel and Hebert Meyers were married October 6, 1915 in the Evangelical Church, Colby. The Rev. M. Lienk officiated at the ceremony. Mrs. Meyers was born in Chicago February 28, 1893, moving to a farm in the town of Colby in May of 1893. She received her education at the Cloverdale School in the town of Colby. Mr. Meyers was born October 12, 1891, in the town of Green Grove. He graduated from the Colby High School.

Following their marriage, the couple farmed in rural Colby until their retirement in 1957. They are members of the First United Church of Christ. Mrs. Meyers is a member of the Women’s Guild and the Royal Neighbors.

They have one son, Heber Jr. of Curtiss, and six grandchildren.
