Elizabeth "Betty" Fluegel, 93, went home to her Savior on Wednesday, April 22,
2020. She died peacefully at her home with her family. Her family will hold a
memorial service on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at St. John's Lutheran Church in
Pittsville. Rev. Gary Markworth will officiate. A time of visitation will be
held on Saturday from 9 AM until the service time at 11 AM at the church in
Pittsville. A private burial will be held at Sherwood Cemetery, Pittsville.
Betty was born on December 19, 1926 to Edwin E. and Ruby (Burch) Larson in
Evanston, Illinois. They later moved to Nekoosa, where she grew up and went to
school. She graduated from Alexander High School in Nekoosa and worked as a mill
worker until she married.
Betty was married to Ardo J. Fluegel on May 10, 1947 at Bethlehem Lutheran
Church in Nekoosa. They lived and worked on his parents’ farm in the town of
Sherwood, Clark County until they retired. They traveled to Arizona for the
winter for many years. When they could no longer travel that far, they stayed
home and enjoyed fishing, bird watching, gardening and spending time with
family. They were active members of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sherwood where
Betty was a member of the Ladies Aid. They had been married for 71 years when
Ardo passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2018.
Betty is survived by her children; Janet (Tom) Gaber, Wisconsin Rapids; Sandra
(Todd) Jakobi, Vesper; Wayne (Ann) Fluegel, Monterey, TN; Robert (Julie)
Fluegel, Granton and Karen Fluegel, Pittsville. She is further survived by her
sister, Dorothy Larson of Tempe, AZ. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren
and 17 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and friends.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and brothers
Irving, Edwin and Donald.
The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice for the care and assistance
given so Betty could stay at her home. They became just like family over the
last year of Betty’s life. She looked forward to their daily visits.
Betty was greatly loved and will be missed by family and many friends.
