Lesniewski, Rich (Retires from Post Office – 16 October 2015)
In 1981, Rich Lesniewski of Thorp was splitting his time working construction
and for his family business at Thorp Floor Covering, but, that winter, while
laid off for the season, Lesniewski was offered a substitute mail carrier job at
his hometown post office by Butch Teclaw, who was the Postmaster at the time.
Little did he know that he was starting a 34-year-long career.
In 1988, Lesniewski was officially hired as a full-time mail carrier, delivering
mail within Thorp’s Route One. Every-day come rain or shine, Lesniewski covered
his route for 15 years. Then in 2003, he moved to Route Three within Thorp – the
course he followed for an additional 12 years.
Now, after a total of 34 years with the Thorp Post Office, Lesniewski has
distributed his final letters, packages, and parcels, as he bid farewell and
entertained retirement. On Friday, October 16, 2015, Lesniewski completed his
route one last time—but before hitting the road, he was the guest of honor
during a retirement celebration at the Thorp Post Office with his
co-workers—past and present—friends, and family.
