Local Veteran Honored for 60 Years of Service (Sweda - 2014)
On Veterans Day—Tuesday, November 11 – the American Legion Post 547 out of
Lublin paid a special visit to Oakbrook Health and Rehabilitation to honor one
of its longest-running members, Joseph Sweda, and present him with a certificate
of Continuous Membership of 60 years.
Joseph Sweda, longtime and dedicated member of the American Legion Post 547, was
one of the Charter members since May of 1955. He not only formed the post, but
also purchased the lot where the Post hall was built. His co-members have often
referred to Sweda as an outstanding contributor to the American Legion Post as
well as its programs.
Following his active years in the service, Sweda went into politics and has
since retired and is currently residing at Oakbrook Health and Rehab in Thorp.
