Francis Joseph Neis, son of the late Dr. Francis Peter and Felicia Neis of
Thorp, WI, turns 100 years old on July 20, 2020. Francis was born in the town of
Gilman and his family moved to Thorp in 1923. Fran's father was Thorp's family
physician for over 50 years. Francis had one older sister, Margie; and one
younger brother, Phil. Both have passed away.
Francis attended Saint Bernard's school and graduated from Thorp High School in
1938. He graduated from Marquette University in 1942. Francis then served in the
Marines for 3 Q years. He fought in four invasions of Japanese held islands:
Saipan, Tinian, Roi Namur and Iwo Jima.
After the Marines, he began his career with Thorp Finance in Wausau WI. There he
met his wife, Jeroma Weber. They were married on November 27, 1947, and enjoyed
59 years together before she passed away in 2007.
They moved to Marshfield in 1948 when Francis was promoted to a manager position
with Thorp Finance. They have been blessed with three children, six
grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild. One
grandson passed away in 2018.
Francis currently resides at Aster Assisted Living in Marshfield, WI. He
communicates with family and friends with his personal computer. He is active at
Aster, knows all the names of the residents and staff, and wins consistently at
Bingo!
