Thorp-SuperValu Opens Super-Sized Remodel (2 June 2015)
After weeks of planning, renovation, and finishing touches, the Thorp SuperValu
officially celebrated its grand reopening of its “super-sized,” newly remodeled
grocery store on Tuesday, June 2, 2015.
On Tuesday evening, the Thorp Area Chamber of Commerce, as well as the staff at
the Thorp SuperValu, hosted the official ribbon-cutting ceremony, where the
completed project was formally unveiled. Even though the local business remained
open all throughout the renovation – fiving citizens and shoppers from the area
a view of the store’s transformation as it happened – the community came out in
numbers to see the final product.
City and County officials were also in attendance during the ribbon-cutting,
congratulating Doug and Cheryl Niemuth and the staff at the Thorp SuperValu for
not only keeping a locally-owned business running within Thorp, but also
expanding to offer a wider selection of goods in a larger, updated facility.
Doug and Cheryl Niemuth addressed the sizable crowd of patrons and visitors,
thanking the entire community for supporting the local store throughout all
these years, as well as the staff at TCI-the contractor and engineer firm that
assisted the Thorp SuperValu in every step of the remodel. The Niemuth’s also
thanked the dedicated staff, some of whom served as the inspiration behind
naming each aisle and or department of the newly renovated store.
After all of the dignitaries and storeowners spoke on the store’s behalf, Doug
and Cheryl Niemuth stepped up to the red ribbon and ceremonially cut it—opening
the completed remodel to the public.
The renovation project of the Thorp SuperValu was announced on December 11,
2013, and officially began in January of 2014. The project included an
additional 1,000 square feet of retail space, utilizing the remainder of the
existing bu8ilding that was vacated by Forward Financial Bank. A large, updated
bakery and deli department is the first thing customers recognize as they enter
the store’s glass doors. The expansion also included a new backroom freezer for
the dairy and meat departments as well as countless other interior design
details that gave the local grocery store an overall facelift.
