Maresch, Bruce (Navy Veteran - 2011)
Junior Auxiliary member Zabrina Mason interviewed veteran Bruce Maresch. He
served in the United States Navy and enlisted in 1945. His tour ended in 1947.
Bruce served in World War II and did not serve during any hostile times.
He attended boot camp at Great Lakes and his rank was S/C. His job was a cook on
a ship for 50 men. He served in the South Pacific and the Philippines. He was
proud of his role with as a sailor. It was a great experience for him.
Bruce still does communicate with some comrades of his unit and went to a couple
of reunions.
Bruce did not do intense fighting and was scared when he was on the edge of a
typhoon. He does not dream of those days.
The enjoyable part was seeing a lot of places and meeting a lot of great guys.
Bruce is a Legion member and says the legion is a great outfit to belong to.
They help wounded, hospitalized, and aged veterans. They are great fighters for
veteran rights and helped them get the benefits they have.
