Jaycees Announce 2103 Veteran’s Day Essay Winners (Nov 2013)
To make sure the community’s youth are encouraged to keep patriotism alive, the
Thorp Jaycees invited seventh graders from the Thorp Catholic School, Abundant
Life, and Thorp Public School to write and submit an essay to the 2013 Veterans
Day Essay Contest.
The year, the winning essay belonged to Riley Raether of the Thorp Public
School, whole essay, entitled “How can ordinary citizens honor veterans,”
encouraged citizens to actively participate in programs, ceremonies, and
celebrations, as well as proudly display the American flag. Riley was awarded
$15 in Thorpbucks for his winning essay. Second place, awarded to Carley
Ciolkosz of the Thorp Catholic School, was given $10, and $5 was given to Mason
Brady for his third place essay.
“I was very impressed with all of the thoughtful and well written essays the
kids put together!” said Wayne Dallman of the Thorp Jaycees. “Deciding on only
three for the awards proved to be a difficult task, and all of the students
should be proud of their wonderful essays!”
