While serving as parks and program manager for the Clark County Forestry and
Parks Department has been a new experience for Curtiss Lindner, it’s also been a
homecoming to the places and people he knows well.
Lindner has been parks and program manager for over two months after taking over
for Marcus Aumann, who took a job in Marathon County. Lindner has several years’
worth of experience managing outdoor properties.
Lindner grew up north of Loyal. He attended UW-Stevens Point and earned a
bachelor’s degree with a double major in environmental law enforcement and
resource management. After that, he worked for Perot State Park for three years.
He then spent one year doing boat patrol on the Chippewa Flowage. From
2013-2017, he worked at the Flambeau River State Forest. He spent most of that
time as assistant property manager. In 2016, the property superintendent
retired, and Lindner became the acting superintendent for the last six to eight
months he was there.
In 2017, Lindner started looking to move closer to home and took a position with
Clark County Planning and Zoning. He then heard about a position being created
with the Black River State Forest and worked as property manager there for two
years. When the parks and program manager position opened up here in Clark
County, Lindner knew it would be a good fit for him.
“I knew the department from when Brian Duell was parks and program manager and I
did a summer internship with Clark County back when I was in college … so I knew
Marcus and Brian already,” he said.
Lindner said that so far he’s enjoyed his position and the challenges it brings.
“It’s very vast work – it’s always something different,” he said.
He said he never knows what he might encounter on a given day when he comes into
work.
“It’s fast-paced and you have to problem solve and think on your feet,” he said.
“There’s also PR aspect and I enjoy working with the public.”:
Lindner said he’s also appreciated seeing different perspectives to outdoor
recreation, both the business owners’ side and the customers’ side.
Lindner’s duties include managing the operations and updates to county
facilities. He also spends at least one day a week out and about talking to
customers and staff at county campgrounds and facilities. Right now, the main
focuses are camping and ATVing. Lindner works with the campground managers to
address any concerns they may have. He also makes sure the ATV trails are
maintained and works with the sheriff’s department and the foresters to address
issues such as people going off the trail.
In September, Lindner and his department will start planning and getting ready
for Bruce Mound to open and prepare for the snowmobile and winter ATV trails to
open.
Lindner said he wants to serve the public.
“If there are any questions or concerns, let us know early so we can address
them,” he said.
Lindner lives in Loyal with his wife and children. He enjoys spending time with
his family doing outdoor activities such a biking, swimming and hiking.
