Beauty Keeps on Growing (Planters – 2012)

The city of Thorp has always had a flare for the aesthetics—finding new ways to keep the town looking attractive for both citizens and visitors. One of Thorp’s trademark features has always been the attention on blooming baskets and planters throughout town, and this summer, one more city landmark has been added to the list of adorned areas.

The railings by McGorgan Creek, which welcome visitors into town on the south end of Washington street, are no longer sitting bare. Now garnished with six decorative, wrought iron box planters, the railings spill out a variety of colorful flowers—beautifully framing the “T-H-O-R-P” stonework.
Thanks to the generosity of individuals and businesses, the city was able to add these handcrafter planters, made by Matt Grajkowski of Thorp, and planted by the Thorp Town & Country Gardeners.

The flowers projects began in Thorp’s centennial year, 1993, with a vision of Harland and Beverly Schultz. Since then, Thorp has continued to [grow]. Adding projects all around town, including hanging baskets, planted areas around the base of the light poles, and the oval planters in the meridian, just to name a few. One individual did not do these ventures, however. It took the hands of many to make all the areas come to life. Involvement of the Girl Scouts, Cindy’s Greenhouse, the Thorp Lions Club, Thorp Town & Country, Thorp Public Works, and countless individuals each played big part in the success and the beauty of Thorp.
