Northwestern Bank (Donates for Senior Center New Roof – 5 October 2015)
Throughout the past few weeks, the membership of the Thorp Senior Center has issued requests to businesses and individuals to assist the local organization with fundraising in order to construct a new roof for their building on Washington Street, and to the membership’s delight, the community has been responding.
On Monday, October 5, Bruce Westphal and Rita Derks of Northwestern Bank of Thorp – neighbors to the Thorp Senior Center – presented a donation of $2,500 to the membership to help fund the Senior Center’s new roof!
The donation is coming at a vital time for the local Senior Center, as it was facing the possibility of closing after 33 years of operation due to the need for anew roof as well as federal budget cuts. The Thorp Area Senior Center has played an important role in the community throughout the years. All seniors, 60 year of age and older, are able to purchase a well-balanced meal five days a week for the small price of $3.75 per day. It’s also home to the Clark County Meals on Wheels program and the Thorp Food Pantry, as well as an open option for seniors to play cards, games, and to socialize.
Fundraising efforts are still in full force for the Senior Center. A CrowdRise account is still in effect, allowing citizens to make a contribution towards the project. Contributors are welcome to donate any amount. To make your donation, visit www.crowdrise.com/thorpareaseniorcitiz.1.
