Hembre, J.O. (Juliua) (Aug 21 1892 – October 7, 1988)

Juliua O. Hembre, 96, passed away October 7, 1988. He was born August 21, 1892, in Clark County, Wisconsin, to Iver John Hembre and Ovica Peterson Hembre in a new log house on the family farm. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church, completed high school in Greenwood and worked for the Wisconsin legislature for four terms during school and college.

He graduated in agriculture from the University of Wisconsin in 1916. He served as superintendent and teacher in Stevensville, Vicgtor, Ismay and Baker for six years.

On August 21, 1918, he married Cora Lanning, who also was a high school teacher. He served ten years as the Fallon County Agricultural Extension Agent in Baker and from 1932-1938 was with the USDA Farm Administration in the eastern counties of Montana.

In 1938, he moved to Minnesota and joined Lutheran Brotherhood and established a general agency in Montevideo. He retired in 1960 and toured Europe with his wife.

During his life he was active in many civic, church, youth and patriotic activites. He was a charter member, president, trustee and treasurer of the American Lutheran Church in Baker and served on the Baker school board.
He personally cared for his invalid wife from 1970-1974. After her death, he completed a geneology of more than 400 relatives, listing 1600 individuals. He wrote and assembled the manuscript of his book, “A Good Time To Live My First 90 Years,” which was published in 1982.

Survivors include three sons, Julian C., of Montevideio, Lloyd E. of Fayetteville, NC, and John I., of Huntington, NY; one daughter, Corrine D Thimpson, of Santa Maria, CA; 13 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. O.W. Meyer, of Cameron, WI.

He was preceded in death by his wife, five brothers, and three sisters.

After 18 days in the hospital, he passed away October 7, 1988, and was laid to rest October 12, 1988, at Montevideo, MN
