My parents, Matt and Mary (Pavic) were born in Jugoslavia and came to America in
1906. Dad worked in a steel mill in Cleveland, Ohio. Mother worked at Lauche's
boarding house. They met in Cleveland and were married at St. Vitus Church. In
1907 they moved to Lorrain, Ohio where I think Dad worked in a coal mine. He
didn't want to make a career in this kind of work, so from there they came to
Willard in August of 1912. They bought the farm north east of Willard on county
trunk G where they lived all their remaining lives.
The last 15 years Dad bought the farm across the road, which was the Bill Abel
place.
There were eight children born to them: Ange, Matt and Viola, born in Lorain,
Rudy, Vera, Edward, Gene, and Elmer were born in Willard. Ange, Matt and Viola
attended West Eaton School, the rest of us went to Rocky Run school.
Ange Gould lives in Cleveland; Viola Sodija in Mentar, Ohio; Vera Roberts in
Loyal, Wisconsin; Gene and family in Aurora, Illinois; Edward's wife and family
live on the old homestead; and Elmer west of them.
Our parents are dead, Mom in 1956 and Dad in 1977. Deceased are also Rudy, 1976;
Edward, 1978 and Matt, 1981.
