Joseph Dobish was born on March 19, 1885 in Sanok, Austria. He immigrated to the
United States from Ham burg, Germany on March 1, 1902 - arriving in New York on
March 12, 1902. On December 3, 1902 he decided to become a citizen. He became a
naturalized citizen of the United States on April 28, 1911 in Cook County,
Chicago where he was employed by Crane Co.
While my father lived in Joliet, Illinois he met Ignac Cesnik. He helped him to
get his citizenship papers. He later met him at Willard when arriving there.
Catherine Madge was born also in Sanok, Austria February 24, 1885. She and dad
were married in Chicago on February 24, 1909. They came to Willard on December
23, 1914 where they settled in the town of Mead. A realtor from Greenwood, name
of Wollenburg made arrangements for them to purchase land.
Six children were born to them, four dying in infancy. Two children came with
them to Willard, Mary and Frank. The children attended school at Rocky Run.
Mary was married to John Horvat. John passed away in April, 1968. Mary now
resides in Greenwood.
Frank lived in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Frank died on May 9, 1979.
My parents retired from the farm May, 1935 and mov¬ed to Greenwood where they
lived and died. The farm was passed on to a nephew, Tony Saule and family.
I remember my folks experiencing many difficulties in the wilderness, hardships,
hard work and the depression. In spite of this they lived a fairly good life.
