Our parents, Sue Daughenbaugh and John Glass were born in Cresco, Iowa. They were married in Lena, Illinois, in the early 1900's. To this union two children were born, Bryan, in 1907, and Heloise, in 1909.

In or about 1910, our grandmother and grandfather Daughenbaugh's bought 160 acres of land in Willard country. This was across the road from our uncles Sam and Henry Daughenbaugh. Mr. Aaron L. Clair was their land-agent at that time. Our mother first stayed in Greenwood, along with grandpa and grandma Daughenbaugh and us two kids, temporarily, until a home was built in Willard country, which was one half mile south of Willard station. This was our home during our grade school years in Willard and our high school years in Greenwood.

Bryan married Marcella Scharenbrock. They had one daughter. In 1961 they moved to Neillsville. Heloise Glass married a Timothy O'Connor (now deceased). They had four children. They lived in Fifield, Wisconsin where Heloise still resides.

Sometime during 1910 or 1911 our mother, Mrs. Susan Glass, re-married to Mr. George Crotzer, also from Illinois who settled in the Willard area and was editor of the Greenwood Gleaner. To this marriage three children were born. Gerald (Micky) 1912, (deceased) was married to Mary Hribar. Geraldine (Gerry) 1913, was married to Chester Doiajeck (deceased), lives in Superior, Wisconsin and has one daughter. Gayes, 1916, married to Ada Somners, now living in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Father Crotzer passed away during the 1917-18 flu epidemic. Our mother continued to live with the five children on the home place our father had established adjacent to the Daughenbaugh farm one-half mile south of the village of Willard. Eventually mother re-married to a Mr. Walter Backus of Marshfield, Wisconsin and two children were born of this union. Walter Jr. of Willard who married Edith Severson, they have four children, Edward, now living at Hemet California, married and has one child.

Father Backus Sr. passed away in 1951 and later that year Mother Susan passed away.

If the first settlers could see Willard today and all improvements, I'm sure they would be happy.
