Joseph Godec was born in the village of Kal, parish of Ambrus, area of
Dolenjskem and he came to America in 1896. His wife, Mary Vidmar, was born in
Prime, parish of Ambrus, also area of Dolenjskem. She came to America in 1898.
They both came to Pueblo, Colorado where they met and were married later in
Aspen Colorado in 1899. Dad worked in the silver mines until we moved to Willard
in 1916. Dad purchased land from Mr. Cesnik upon seeing an ad in the paper. He
bought 80 acres and paid $2000.00. He bought the land two years before we came
to Willard. As for hard times, they really were hard for a long time. There were
four children born of this union, three girls and one boy. Mary was born in
Aspen in 1900, Anna in Aspen in 1901, Joe in Pueblo in 1903 and Caroline in
Pueblo in 1906.
Dad died January 22, 1958, Mother April 31, 1967, Mary October 25, 1977 and Anna
January 8, 1979.
