Father John was born in Zagorje ob Save, Slovenia, Jugoslavia on June 24, 1884.
He came to America in 1909. Mother, Mary Bevar was also born in the same
village. Date of birth was May 27, 1891.
John immigrated to America in 1909 to Breezy Hill, Kansas. He worked in the coal
mines. He saved enough money so he sent for Mary. She arrived in Breezy Hill in
March 1911. They were married in Breezy Hill, Kansas on April 19, 1911.
After working 10 years in the coal mines with very poor and dangerous
conditions, John decided to try farming. He saw Cesnik's ad in the Prosveta for
farm land for sale. Through this agency he bought 80 acres woods and undeveloped
land. The price was $14.00 an acre.
On April 1920 they moved to Willard. Four children were born: John Jr., Sylvia,
Wilma and Albin. John and Wilma are deceased and Sylvia lives in Moline,
Illinois.
Albin lives in Hinsdale, Illinois. In the spring of 1943, the farm was sold to the Digoski family.
