Louis Jordan, son of Andrew and Anna Jordan was born in Vasi Bresje Pri Raki,
Kolenjskem Jugoslavia on May 30, 1877. He came to the United States on October
12, 1901 and settled in Cleveland, Ohio where he worked for 2 years. He also
worked in Chicago for awhile and from there he went to Frontenac, Kansas.
Theresa Ratec was the daughter of Martin and Theressa Ratec. She was born in
Vasi Dole, parish of Fora Skocjan in Dolenjskem, Jugoslavia on September 30,
1879. She came to the United States in 1903.
Louis Jordan and Theressa Rateji were married on February 6, 1906 at Girard,
Kansas. To this union were born 5 children: two died in infancy, Louis Jr.,
Josephine and Rose.
Louis Jordan worked in the coal mines in Kansas for 14 years. In 1918 they came
to Greenwood where they lived on a farm 1 mile west of Greenwood. The farm had
68 acres of land. This was a dairy farm consisting of cows, pigs, and chickens.
In August of 1945 they sold the farm to their daughter and son-in-law, Frank and
Rose Arch. They then moved to the city of Greenwood. He operated a filling
station in Greenwood and in Withee for several years. He was also a bartender in
Greenwood.
They were members of St. Mary's Church in Greenwood. Louis was a member of the
Slovenian National Benefit Society of Willard. Theresa was a member of the
K.S.K.J, of Willard.
Theressa Jordan passed away March 8, 1964 at the age of 84. Louis Jordan passed
away December 4, 1971 at the age of 94.
Louis Jr. married Lillian Johnson. He passed away in 1945. Josephine married
Martin Ryona of Withee. Rose married Frank Arch Sr. who passed away in July
1975. She resides in Greenwood.
