Frank Klanchar was born in Slovenia in the Village of Ig on April 2, 1875. His
wife, Frances Tomazic was born in Slovenia in Pijava Gorica on April 1, 1878.
She came to America in 1902 to marry Frank Klanchar. They were married in Ely,
Minnesota, where he worked in the iron ore mines.
They had six sons and three daughters: Frank Jr., Mary, John, Louise (Alice),
Tony, Frances, Paul, Adolph, and Albert. All but the three youngest sons were
born in Ely, Minnesota.
The Klanchar family moved to Willard in 1910. Frances brought a stone with her
to weight down her sauerkraut. She was very surprised when she got to the farm
and saw all the rocks.
When Adolph was just a young man, he and some of his friends were out in the
woods hunting squirrel one Sunday afternoon and Adolph shot a hawk. It fell to
the ground and thinking it was dead, Adolph went over to look at it. When he
turned around to leave, the hawk jumped up and bit him in the seat of the pants
and wouldn't let go. His brother, Paul, who was with Adolph, finally knocked the
hawk off.
Their son John was killed in an elevator accident in Chicago in September 1925
at the age of about 20.
Frances Klanchar died on June 24, 1944. Frank Klanchar died on January 13, 1964.
