Mr. and Mrs. Louis Laushe lived in St. Louis, Missouri before coming to Willard
in the early 20's when they bought 40 acres of land from Frank Bergant which
formerly had been owned by Mr. Kaucnik.
There was a log house and log barn on the farm but Laushe's couldn't make a
living on it so after a few years they went to Chicago, Illinois where Mr.
Laushe worked in the steel mills for many years. About the year 1932 they
returned to Willard and lived in a little house on the John Gregorich farm until
they built a new brick house on their farm. The log cabin that had been there
was struck by lightning and burned down while they were in Chicago. Mrs. Theresa
Laushe was a distant cousin of Mrs. Gregorich.
Louis and Theresa had no children but were foster parents to Rudy Verhunce.
After Louis' death, Theresa lived with a brother in St. Louis but some years
later returned to Willard and even¬tually married Mike Krultz. Theresa passed
away in the early 60's.
