Sam and Harvey Long were brothers that came to Willard in early 1908. They both
purchased land on their own. Harvey began building, for he had plans for
marrying with the dates set. He returned to Mt. Morris and was married to Miss
Anna Trostle on May 27, 1908. His brother Sam also attended the wedding. Later
in the summer Mr. E.P. Trostle, Harvey’s father-in-law came to Willard for
several weeks to help in finishing the buildings.
During the fall months and winter Harvey Long was Willard's first school-master
or teacher, as we say. They lived here in Willard, several years, Harvey
continuing to teach school, then they returned to Mt. Morris. The Harvey Longs
had two daughters; Roberta lives in Mt. Morris and Agnes (address unknown).
