Jack (Jakov) Malnar was born on March 1, 1895 in the village of Crnilug, Croatia
and the county of Gorski-Kotar Jugoslavia. His brother Joe was instrumental in
his coming to the United States to West Mineral, Kansas in the county of
Cherokee. He lived there with Mr. and Mrs. George Malnar. Mrs. Malnar (Mary) was
his sister. The part of this state where they lived was coal mining area.
Jack bought some land in the Willard area in the Town of Hendren in 1914 where
he settled and lived for many years. He was also a coal miner and in 1918 he was
badly hurt by a fall in a coal mine in Catlin, Vermillion County, Illinois, he
was married to Appalonia Horacek who died several years later.
Years later he married Frances Stimac and they resided in Willard. In the
earlier years he also worked in the harvest fields around New England and
Dickinson, North Dakota where he had some close friends. Jack passed away and is
buried in the Greenwood cemetery.
