Anton Papesh was born near Novo Mesto, Slovenia in 1867. His mother died when he was a young boy and his father re-married. Around 1900, Anton, his brother Frank and his sister Mary came to Calumet, Michigan where he found employment in the copper mines. His wife Mary, horn in 1872, also came to Calumet where they were married.

Four daughters: Stephariia, Antonia, Annie and Mary and one son Joe were born to this union. Stephania married Eli Bogdonovich. She died in June 1933. Antonia married Anton Panyan. She resides in a nursing home in Duluth, Minnesota. Annie, 11 years of age and Mary 13 years of age, both died in a school building fire in Calumet, during a Christmas program. Joe Papesh died in Willard January 10, 1924.

Mary Papesh (wife of Anton) died in Willard April 3, 1923. Anton Papesh died in 1942. They are buried at Willard. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Gregorich now own the property where they lived.
