Frank Petkovsek: Born December 12, 1885. Died January 29, 1953. Mary Jereb: Born
September 6, 1885. Died April 20, 1958
Frank Petkovsek was born near the town of Vrhnika. His job there was watching
sheep. He came to the United States in April 1912. He settled in Waukegan,
Illinois and worked in the steel mills.
He was married to Mary Jereb September 6, 1915. She was also born near the town
of Vrhinka and came to America in 1909. She also worked in the steel mills at
Waukegan.
In April of 1918, they moved to a farm north of Willard, which they purchased
from a Rosa. It was a 40 acre parcel. In 1922 they purchased another 80 acre
farm near there from Anton Nogoda. Mr. Petkovsek hewed many of the timbers for
the barns in Willard. He used a twine for the straight edge and never hit the
twine with the axe. They lived there until retirement.
There were two boys born. Frank Jr. on January 11, 1917 and Joe on February 12,
1923. Frank lives in Greenwood and Joe lives near Marshfield. Joe Jr. still
operates the farm.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Petkovsek are laid to rest at Ho ly Family cemetery in
Willard.
