Joshua Smith, a 2013 graduate of Colby High School, completed basic training at
Ft. Jackson, S.C. on April 16. Due to COVID-19, his advanced individual training
(AIT) at Ft. Huachuca, Ariz., was delayed until early May. His military
occupational specialty (MOS) is as an unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) operator.
He started his four months of schooling on July 20.
Smith is a fourth-generation member of the U.S. military. He is the son of David
and Toni Smith, Dorchester, and the grandson of Susan and Jeff Peterson,
Westboro; the late Roger Petrick; and Beverly and the late Larry Smith,
Dorchester.
