PETER and CHRISTINA SCHMIDT
Pete and Christina Schmidt came to Willard from Sabrila, Iowa in the early
1900's and settled on 40 acres of land along what later became County Trunk G.
Three children were born to this union: Christina, who died in childhood in
Sabrila, Iowa, Harry and Hans.
Pete's farm was less than one-half mile south of Willard. Mr. Schmidt used much
of his time moving freight between depot and stores and also from Green¬wood to
Willard. This was all done by horses and wagon. His two sons lived with their
dad. Harry moved away ear¬ly in years but Hans stayed and farmed with his dad,
later on he hauled milk for the Greenwood Milk Products Co-op for several years.
Christina (mother) passed away in 1930. Pete served as Town of Hendren chairman
and was a member of the School Board at Willard for many years. He purchased an
additional forty acres across the road which is now owned by Stanley Suda. Pete
passed away in 1934.
Harry lived in Milwaukee. He passed away in Milwaukee in 1957. Hans was married
to Lillian Severson. He passed away in 1943.
