The Edward Slaughter family moved to Willard in about 1905-06. The first child
born in this family in Willard (then called Slaughtersville), was born July
1908. They were the first family in Willard, so that explains the name of
Slaughtersville.
They lived about 3/4 mile north east of Willard, just past Dan Boh's farm home
(of today) in an abandoned lumber camp. They came from Mt. Morris, Illinois and
were later followed by several families from the same area in Illinois.
The abandoned lumber camp had two log buildings, one for the loggers and one for
the horses. One burned down and the other was moved to Willard where Eva
Severson now lives.
They lived there until they moved to Fairchild in later years. Edward and Jennie
had five children: Florine, now living in St Paul, Minnesota; Harold, living in
Min¬neapolis, Minnesota; Gladys, living in Munising, Michigan on Lake Superior;
George deceased (16 years); Jane, living in Mt. Morris, Illinois (now Mrs. John
Taylor).
