MILWAUKEE - Merlin Kilty, 46, a nine-year member of the Colby School Board, was elected Thursday as president of the Wisconsin Association of School Boards.

Kilty also serves as the Colby School Board vice president. He was elected to head the WASB, which represents 2,800 school board members in Wisconsin's 433 school districts.

With his three sons, Kilty operates a 640-acre dairy farm near Colby. He is a member of the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Control, chairs a regional Cooperative Education Service Agency, and serves on the governing board of the Wisconsin High School Forensics Association.

Kilty also is a member of the board of directors of an insurance company and is past president of the Wisconsin Farm Business Association. he will serve as WASB president for one year.
