Evan O. Leonard, 82, long time resident of Fort Benton and Chouteau county, died Monday night at the St. Clare hospital after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Leonard was born July 19, 1888, in Farmerville, New York, moving to Humbird, Wisconsin, with his parents at the age of five where he grew to manhood. On April 2, 1913, he married Maud L. Stallard, also of Humbird. They came to Montana on May 2, 1913, and they homesteaded and bought a ranch in the Spring Coulee area out of Loma, farming there until 1949 when they retired to Fort Benton, where he resided until his death on May 4.
He is survived by his wife, Maud, a brother, Robert A. Leonard, Glendale, California; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Darton, Sane Jose, California, and Mrs. E.C. Geyer Los Angeles, California, and nephews and nieces.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at the Fort Benton Funeral Home. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Great Falls. Mr. Leonard was a member of the Methodist church. Services will be conducted by Rev. John Soderberg. Pallbearers will be: E.P. Rettig, Irving Bartlett, Gordon Schlack, Wayne Hampton, Marvin Appleby, and Joe Smith. Honorary pallbearers are: A.W. Schlack, Horace Armstrong, E.J. Hankins, John Gerdes, Fred Young, Allen Chesbro, Albert Richard, Orval Richard, Bert Stack, Knute Lundy, and McAuley.
