Mrs. Maude L. Leonard, 79, died at the St. Clare hospital here last Wednesday night, August 23, 1972.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at the Benton Funeral Home with Rev. John Soderberg of the First United Methodist church officiating. Burial was in Riverside cemetery. Pallbearers were Edward P. Rettig, Orval Richard, Gordon Schlack, Bet Stack, Joe Smith and Marvin Appleby. Honorary pallbearers were Irving Bartlett, Harvey Fox, Horace Armstrong, John Gerdes, George Schlack, Art Schlack, Albert Richard, Fred Young, Allen Chesbro, Ed McAuley, and Wayne Hampton.
Maude L. Stallard was born at Humbird, Wisconsin, February 5, 1893, and was married there to Evan O. Leonard on April 2, 1913. A month later the Leonards came to Montana, arriving May 2, and homesteaded in the Spring Coulee area near Loma. They operated the farm there until retiring to Fort Benton in 1949, where they had made their home since. Mr. Leonard died May 4, 1970.
Survivors are a nephew, Horace S. Sherwin, Black River Falls, Wisconsin, and Gladys Kruger of Winona, Minnesota.
