The Kurth School, located about halfway between Granton and Neillsville in the
town of Grant and owned by a Minnesota resident, was discovered about 8 p.m.
The building, which had been converted to a home, was unoccupied when the fire

The former Kurth School, located between Neillsville and Granton in the town of
Grant was destroyed by fire Friday evening. Many of the town of Grant residents
were educated at the former school, which was later remodeled into a home by
Howard and Barbara Clawson. They later sold the building to William Russell
Merrill, of Minnesota. The Clark County Sheriff's Department is investigating
the cause of the fire.
