Matt Zugich was born in Austria, now part of Jugoslavia, on February 24, 1888.
He came to America in 1907 at the age of 19 and landed in the small town of
DePue, Illinois where he knew some people of the Slovene speaking language.
There, one of his friends was Ignac Benske. Through him he met Mary Jordan
(Ludwig Jordan's sister). Ignac married Josephine Jordan and Matt married Mary
Jordan. They united in marriage in Green¬wood at St. Mary's Church on January 1,
1918.
Then they moved to DePue, Illinois. They lived there for about 1 1/2 years. Then
they moved to Willard on the Frank Schwab farm. They lived there about 3 1/2
years where a son John was born to them.
They had two children, a girl Mary born in DePue and a son John born in Willard.
From there they moved to In¬dianapolis, Indiana where another son was born named
Henry. They lived there six years moving then to Chicago where they stayed for
20 years. They came back to Wisconsin and settled in Neillsville, Wisconsin
about 20 miles from Willard. Both are deceased now, buried at St. Mary's
Cemetery at Neillsville.
The children: Mary Ann (Mrs. Norman Paquette) lives in Neillsville. John Zugich,
married and lives in Seattle, Washington.
