Remains of Grandma Pyatt Are Brought Here for Burial
The remains of Mrs. May E Pyatt, widow of the late William E. Pyatt, were
brought to Powell for burial from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Albert Fossen
of Billings. Powell people, especially the old-timers, will mourn the death of
this good old lady. She died April 30th, 1922, at the advanced age of 69 years.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. George
Hutt, after which burial was made in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Obituary
Mary E. Preston was born in Grundy county, Illinois, July 20, 1852. She was
married to William E. Pyatt February 11, 1875. To this union were born four
children, three sons and one daughter, one son dying in infancy. The three
surviving children are Charles Pyatt of Greenwood, Wisconsin, George Pyatt of
Denver, Colorado, and Nellie Fossen of Billing, with whom she had made here home
since the death of her husband. The children were all at her bedside when she
passed away.
Grandma Pyatt, as she was familiarly called, came to Powell flat, with her
family in 1909.l They made their home here until the death of Mr. Pyatt, which
occurred January 29, 1914. Since then she has made her home with her daughter,
Mrs. Fossen of Billings. Montana. Grandma has been a great sufferer for the past
eight years but bore her affliction patiently. She was converted and joined the
Methodist church and lived a clean, Christian life. Her part in the work of the
church was always faithfully done as long as her health permitted.
Thoughtfulness of others and kindness to all were strong characteristics of her
nature.
Besides her three children she leaves one brother to mourn her departure.
