The North Hendren Co-operative Dairy Company was organized in the Spring of 1923
by selling one hundred $25.00 shares to the farmers in the area.
The .first board .of directors were John Gregorich, - Joseph Pekol, Joseph Ule,
Frank Perovsek and Mike Kotcon.
The cheese factory was built on 1/2 acre of land bought from Joe Jordan. It is
located on the southeast corner of the southwest quarter of the southeast
quarter of Section 3, Township of Hendren.
The factory began operating the second week of May 1923, with Frank Caspar as
cheesemaker. A wood fired boiler was the source of power.
The Articles of Incorporation were signed and notarized on May 10, 1923 and
filed with the Secretary of State, Fred R. Zimmerman, in Madison, Wisconsin, May
12, 1923. The factory has operated continuously since then.
On August 12, 1952 the co-operative was reorganized, the articles and by-laws
amended, in order to extend the membership to all current and future patrons.
The present manager is Robert Schmidt. The cooperative has grown through the
years. It currently grosses nearly $5,000,000.00 in sales annually.
