Saturday’s market day saw the gathering of the largest crowd that has ever been
in Colby. It is estimated that there were about 1200 outsiders in town.
Everything went of successfully and the crowd seemed to enjoy itself thoroughly.
The exhibits were fine and were a great surprise to strangers who had not been
here before. It is a fact that Colby’s market day exhibits are as good as can be
seen at any of the fairs and are becoming better all the time, as the farmers
interest increases. These market days are certainly putting Colby on the map as
nothing else has ever done. People are commencing to come from long distances to
take in the amusements and do their trading on that day. Some have come as far
as 2 or 30 miles, and all unite in saying that they are coming again. The great
drawback Saturday was the inadequate barn room. Every barn was filled and teams
had to be hitched all along the alleys and streets. There will probably be two
more market days this fall and special effort will be made to make them better
than ever.
