Dumler, Lamont “Sonny” Walter (1949 – 29 March 2020)
Lamont “Sonny” Walter Dumler, Marshfield, passed to his eternal life on March
29, 2020, at age 70, due to complications with his health. He was known to all
as Sonny and to close friends as “Sudsy” as he was known to enjoy a Budweiser or
two.
Sonny attended Spencer High School. Afterward he lived in Loyal helping his
Grandma Tilly Meyer. He worked at Rollohome in Marshfield and for the Soo Line
Railroad. Sonny enjoyed the camaraderie with his core crew.
Sonny married Mary Berkholtz and later they divorced, but both remained devoted
to their son Mathew. Sadly, Matt’s life was cut short due to health issues.
Upon retirement, Sonny kept himself busy by helping out his good friend Tom “Mr.
G” Gilbertson. Be it cooking brats for the Super Bowl, cleaning the bar or
caring for Tom’s beloved bulldogs, he would help out in any way he could. Their
friendship endured even though it resembled “The Grumpy Old Men” saga. They were
always there for each other and Sonny’s family is grateful for Tom’s support.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Ruth Dumler; his son,
Mathew Dumler; his brother-in-law, Jesse Nowak and his nephew, Micah Nowak. He
is survived by siblings Mary Lou Besonen (Ed) of Harland, Gloria Schaefer (Dick)
of Marshfield, Barb Nowak (Denny Karlen) of Marshfield, Delores “Toots” Sapinski
(Rick) of Medford; Tom Dumler of Spencer, and Rick Dumler (Karen) of Spencer.
Sonny will be missed by his many nieces and nephews that were thoroughly
entertained with his good-hearted teasing and his sometimes inappropriate jokes.
He did not enjoy large gatherings, but his humor and laughter were memorable
when he joined in.
To honor Sonny’s wishes, no service will be held. The family requests memorials
be made to the Marshfield Area Pet Shelter.
Sonny’s family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Weis, the people in
ICU and the palliative care staff at the Marshfield Medical Center. They
compassionately navigated the final days between Sonny and his family.
His arrangements are under the care of Life Tributes Funeral Home-Spencer.
