Nelson, Joseph Martin (7 February 1927 – 5 September 2020)

Joseph Martin Nelson, 93, of Stanley, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020.

Joe was born at home in Eau Claire County, on Feb. 7, 1927 to the late Joseph and Hannah (Johnson) Nelson. He grew up south of Boyd, attending Liberty Hill School. Joe married Beverly Pecha on Sept. 9, 1950 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church parsonage.

Joe worked on numerous farms until buying his own farm in Colburn township in rural Gilman in 1954. He farmed there until retiring. Joe enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and telling stories about where and when he got the deer that were behind the many mounts on the living room walls. Joe and Bev went on many trips which included Washington DC, with their friends Joe and Arlene Dubiak, South Dakota, Branson, Canada, and Oklahoma. They also enjoyed many trips to the casino and playing cards with friends.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly of 69 years; his daughters, Janice (Dave) Berge of Thorp, Geneva (Duane) Wundrow of Stanley, Karen (Jerome) Mateski of Sheldon, Marceen Nelson of Gilman, Kathy (Vernon) Kuester of Stanley; his son, Lonnie (Carol) Nelson of Colby; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Edmund, Harland, Edward, Orlando, Emery, Robert; and sisters, Helen, Anna Cloutier, and Edna Osborn.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, at Plombon Funeral Home in Stanley with Pastor Ken Schmidt officiating. Visitation will take place from 1:30 p.m. until time of the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at Edson Union Cemetery at a later date.
