Christianson, David (2 June 1941 – 2 November 2020) With Flag

David Christianson, age 79, of Stanley, passed away on November 2, 2020, at The Home Place in Stanley.

David was born on June 2, 1941, and grew up in Stanley, He graduated from Stanley High School in 1959 and enlisted in the United States Air Force the next year. Following his military service, he returned to Eau Claire where he attended CVTC for auto mechanics. After spending time in Illinois working for his uncle, he once again returned to Eau Claire and took a job with Coca-Cola. In 1967 he was married to Mavis Fehr, and in 1970 they moved to Stanley, to live on the farm once owned by his grandparents, Lars and Theresia Larson. Here they raised their three children, Mary, John and Brian.

During David’s, many years with Coca-Cola, he was often spotted at local restaurants and county fairs repairing equipment as needed, and a cold Coke was never far from his hand. After leaving Coca-Cola, he also worked at Kwik Kafé Coffee and Ace Ethanol. “Big Dave” will not only be remembered for his 6’5” stature and booming voice, but as a long-time member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church. He was a member of the choir for many years, and was quick to lend a hand wherever needed, hardly missing a service.

David is survived by his children, Mary (Bruce) Ommen, John (Monte Sue) Christianson, and Brian Christianson; his brother Gordon (Bonnie) Christianson and brother-in-law Everett Brewer; his aunt Esther Mathison; five grandchildren, Kaleb, Myia, Sophia, Alexis and Lyla; several nieces, nephews, and many cousins. David was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Louise Christianson, and his sister Phyllis Brewer.

Our family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to so many people who provided care to Dad during these last few years. Whether just a hug or kind words, they were greatly appreciated. Thank you to the staff at The Home Place in Stanley where Dad spent considerable time this year. Dad really enjoyed the special activities and outings. Thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire and Our Lady of Victory Hospital in Stanley, who provided care for him after his stroke, especially physical therapy, as well as those who provided care for him during his extended stays on 6th floor. Thank you to Dr. Neal Christiansen and Dr. Daniel Gilles and their staff who were strong advocates for his health care and cancer treatment regardless of Dad’s age. Thank you to the staff from St. Joseph’s Hospice, who spent countless hours with so many patients, especially Dad.

A special thank you to Pastor Ken Schmidt and others who held his hand, read to him, and provided comfort when we were unable to do so, thank you can only begin to express how grateful we are for your kindness.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2020, at 2 p.m. for friends and relatives at Evergreen Cemetery, in Stanley. Due to Covid-19, the family has chosen not to hold a public visitation and requests that anyone attending the graveside service, please respect the family’s wishes by practicing social distancing where possible and wearing a face covering.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the local Boy Scout Troop 50, Luther Park Bible Camp or your favorite charity.
