Mesdames John Shanks and Julia Bailey have been calling on lot owners and others interested in the Greenwood Cemetery getting an expression regarding the advisability of forming an association which will take charge of the cemetery, looking after its improvement and maintenance.

The plan is the same as adopted by Black River Falls, Neillsville, and other places. The ladies are meeting with a ready response in favor of forming a society or association as suggested, and to that end a meeting of all interested is hereby called for Monday evening, August 22, 1904, to meet in the Elias Peterson building. The object is a most worthy one and should appeal to everyone interested in the Greenwood Cemetery.

(Summary of Organizational meeting Held in late August)

At a meeting of a number of the lot owners in the Greenwood Cemetery held the other evening, it was voted to organize an association with power to improved and care for the cemetery. A board of nine directors or trustees was elected, three for one years, three for two years, and three for three years, as follows:

- For three years – H H. Hartson, Mesdames W. H. Palms and Cynthia Varney.
- For two years – Erastus Bowen, Mesdames John Shanks and Mary Warner.
- For one year – A. M. White, Mesdames E. T. Burch and Sarah Meek.

The officers were chosen from the board of directors as follows:

- H. H. Hartson, President; Mrs. W. H. Palms, Secretary; A. M. White, Treasurer.

It is the purpose of the association to be clothed with the proper authority from the city council so that it shall have full charge of the cemetery, looking after the care and improvement, and hiring a sexton, who will be engaged by the association for at least several months of the year, if nt by the year. A membership fee will be charged, $1 for gentlemen and 50 cents for ladies. . Though it may not be done, it would seem that it would be necessary to charge a small sum per year to those owning lots in order to raise revenue enough to properly care for each lot.

The object of the association is a worthy one and should meet with the hearty cooperation of every lot woner and public minded citizen. An excellent list of directors has been chosen, who will give the cemetery and its care close attention and make it attractive and a fit resting place for the dead.
