UW-Stout (Honors/Scholarships - 2020)

Scholarships valued at more than $870,000 were awarded to 394 University of Wisconsin-Stout University Foundation, Inc.

Scholarship recipients from this area are listed by their hometown, academic plan and scholarship(s).

Chili: Kylie Ganther, graphic design and interactive media, Dick Grum Scholarship.

Curtiss: Ciomara Tomas-Bautista, psychology, Dick Grum Scholarship.

Dorchester: Tara Weber, family and consumer sciences education, Karl J. and Jean A. Pengilly Windberg Endowed Scholarship.

Greenwood: Hannah Hinker, packaging, Dick Grum Scholarship.

Loyal: Brian Schmidt, engineering technology, Dick Grum Scholarship, Donald and Ann Ritzinger Zittleman Scholarship.

Neillsville: Megan King, studio art, Dick Grum Scholarship.

The students received that awards during a fall virtual scholarship reception, which replaced the traditional on-campus event because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Established in 1963, the Stout University Foundation Scholarship Program has helped more than 10,486 students receive a college education. Through the financial support of alumni, parents, faculty and staff, and friends of the university, the program has awarded more than $14.7 million over the years.

Eleven students, including five seniors and one international student, have been named ambassadors for the 2020-21 academic year at University of Wisconsin-Stout, among them a Dorchester native.

The Scout Ambassadors program in its fifth year, gives students opportunities to represent the student body and engage with campus leadership, alumni and corporations through a variety of special events and opportunities. Tara Weber of Dorchester was chosen to be an ambassador. She is a junior studying family and consumer sciences education.

“The program will help me continue to practice my leadership skills, which will help me in my career,” said Weber. “The program is also a way to help me connect with other students who are passionate about becoming better leaders and with their programs here at UW-Stout.”

In addition to representing 11 academic majors, the ambassadors have been involved in a variety of student organizations and activities. The ambassadors program is a collaborative project with the university’s Involvement Center and the Alumni Association.

To become ambassadors, students had to fill out an application and be interviewed. Criteria for eligibility includes having a grade-point average of at least 3.0, taking at least six class credits and being available to share their UW-Stout experience with alumni and prospective students. Applicants also must answer three essay questions and provide a resume.
