Last Friday morning sixty pioneer ladies of Greenwood and vicinity gathered at
the Lucas Grove. Mrs. Julia bailey, who will soon leave for Oregon, was the
guest of honor. Upon arrival at the picnic ground the committee immediately
began preparations for dinner. The tempting viands were spread on the grass, and
the picnickers found seats nearby.
After dinner was over all traces of formality had vanished, and the really
enjoyable part of the day began. A few songs were sung and were followed later
by recitations. Everyone, with the exception of Mrs. Burch, was on her best
behavior. At about four o’clock the ladies reluctantly left thee spot and
departed for their homes.
