That Clark County is adapted to the raising of as many different crops as any
section of the state has been proven many times over by as many different
demonstrators.
Recently we visited the field of Rudolph Johnson, who lives south of Stanley in
the Town of Worden (Clark County). This patch contains about two acres of as
fine appearing tobacco as we ever noted growing anywhere. It is his second crop
from the same patch. In fact it is the second crop the ground has had on it.
Mr. Johnson came from Westby, Vernon County, five years ago. There he raised and
worked with tobacco for twenty years, and knows the business from A to Z. He
says this country is admirably adapted to the culture of the weed and, if
anything, produces a finer and better grade than is raised below, owing largely
to the excellent soil and moisture conditions. He has on hand about 1100 pounds
that he raised last year, a sample of which we have on exhibition in the office.
With the experiments that have been made by many others in the county and that
is being made on a large scale by parties near Stanley, there can be no doubt
this will be a valuable source on income for Clark County farmers in the near
future.
