The new flag pole which was presented to the city by Lynn Miller of Tacoma,
Washington, was raised Tuesday forenoon. G. W. Bishop had charge of the raising
and was assisted by Dan Cook, C. J. Carter, and others.
An attempt was made to raise the pols Saturday, but owing to an accident caused
by the breaking of a chain, it was postponed until Tuesday.
The pole stands on a flat rock nine feet below the surface, and will be set in
solid concrete.
The top is something over 135 feet above the ground and is surmounted by a large
tilt eagle.
The pole is a beautiful piece of timber and presents a splendid appearance since
it was raised.
It is expected that dedication exercises will be held sometime in the spring,
likely on Memorial Day. We hop a big flag about 15 by 40 feet will be secured by
that time and raised with appropriate ceremony.
