Kling, Duane Leon (21 February 1934 – 2 August 2005) With Flag
Duane L. Kling, 71, of Hatfield, died Tuesday morning, August 2, 2005, in his
home.
Duane Leon Kling was born Feb. 21, 1934, in Hatfield, to William G. and Goldie
(Ketchum) Kling. The family later lived in City Point for a few years, then at
the Komensky Ranger Station and he attended the Clay School. He later attended
the Pleasantville School and graduated from Black River Falls High School.
He was an Army veteran, having served three years on active duty.
Prior to enlisting in the Army, Duane was employed as a pulp wood cutter and as
a sphagnum moss harvester. Following his Army discharge, Duane became employed
as an undersheriff for Jackson County Sheriff George Johnson. He later became a
process server for the Jackson County Sheriff's Department and then as a deputy.
He retired from the sheriff's department at the age of 65.
He married the former Edie Heuer on Dec. 30, 1968. The couple lived in the home
that Duane built using funds he received by trapping. Edie and Duane also owned
and operated Kling's Bait and Taxidermy Shop of Hatfield for several years.
Duane enjoyed fishing, hunting and trapping and was a Green Bay Packers fan and
a boxing fan.
Survivors include his wife, Edie, of Hatfield; a daughter, Cirsten "Schatzi"
(Jason) Herman of Black River Falls; three sons, Todd Kling of Black River
Falls, and Duane William "Billy" Kling and Carson C. Kling both of Hatfield;
eight grandchildren, Natasha, Todd, Kylie, Shawn, Kirsten Donahue, Jamie
Mattson, Stephanie Herman and Kia Kling; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Pat
(Ron) Kautz of Hatfield; a brother, Bernard (Rose) Kling; and numerous other
relatives and friends.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Conrad.
A celebration of life for Duane L. Kling will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday,
Aug. 4, 2005, at the Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls. Margaret Rewald
will speak and burial, with military honors by Thompson-RedCloud VFW Post 1959
and Miles-Hagen American Legion Post 200, will be in the Brookside Cemetery at
Millston.
Casket bearers will be Todd Kling, Carson Kling, Duane W. "Billy" Kling, Cory
White, Brent Grace, Joe Organ, Mike O'Brien, Randy Staszak and Dan Youngthunder.
Family and friends are invited for visitation on Thursday from 9 until 10:30
a.m. at the Buswell Funeral Home, (www.buswellfuneralhome.com).
