The Toltzman homestead, north and west of Spencer in the Town of Unity (Clark
Co.), was purchased by August and his wife, Wilhelmina, on May 5, 1882 from John
Grimm. Toltzman’s son, Herman, and wife, Elsie, took over the farm in March of
1920. Since September of 1960 the farm has been owned and operated by their son,
Delmar, and wife, Irene. The farm now contains 233 acres, upon which is kept a
herd of 100 cattle, including 45 milk cows. With three strong, health sons
growing up on the land, the Toltzman’s are hopeful that their farm will remain
in the family for a fourth generation.
