William Naatz, who was born at Nizternow, Germany, and his wife, Augusta,
immigrated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1881. In 1891 they bought an 80 acre farm
northwest of Spencer in the Town of Brighton, where they remained until his
death in September of 1924. The farm was then owned and operated by their son,
John, until his death in 1966. This farm has the distinction of being the
location where the first Lutheran Church services in this part of the country
were held. The services were conducted in a log schoolhouse in 1873.
