Lato, Thomas L. (17 Sep 1958 – 15 Jan 2021)
Thomas Lee Lato, 62, of Crystal Falls, MI, went to be with his Lord on Friday,
January 15, 2021, after medical complications from having a stroke.
Tom was born on September 17, 1958, in Chicago, IL, to Paul and Erma Lato. He
graduated from Loyal High School in Loyal, WI, in May of 1976. After the Lato
family moved to the U.P. of Michigan, Tom received a Bachelor's Degree in
Business from Northern Michigan University in Marquette, MI.
After many years employed in management positions for Shopko Corporation in
multiple states, Tom returned to the U.P.; he married Theresa (Bortolini)
Anderson and raised three children in Crystal Falls. He was part owner of Lato
Lumber for 22 years with his brother Dan and had just recently retired from his
position as President of Operations of the company. Tom was an active member of
the community; he was a member of Guardian Angels Catholic Church and the Lions
Club, and he participated in a variety of sports, including softball, golf and
bowling. He also loved the outdoors and making memories with his loved ones.
He will be greatly missed by his three children: Timothy Lato of Crystal Falls,
Michelle (Tony) Trepasso of Alpha, and Nicholas Lato of Crystal Falls; three
grandchildren: Hailey, Logan, and Harper Trepasso; three brothers: Jim (Jane)
Lato of Winter Haven, FL, Dan (Pat) Lato of Crystal Falls, and Gary (Sharon)
Lato of Crystal Falls; two sisters: Julia (Bruce) Natchke of Burleson, TX, and
Linda (Allen) Kiekhefer of La Grange, KY; nieces, nephews, and other relatives
and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Paul and Erma Lato; brother, David
Lato; sister, Jane Ringquist; brother- in-law, Greg Ringquist; and
step-daughter, Stephanie Anderson.
Due to COVID restrictions, services will be held sometime in the spring or
summer at the Nash Funeral Home in Crystal Falls.
Condolences may be expressed to the family of Thomas Lee Lato online at
