For the first time Spencer had a Queen reign over the Spencerama Days
Celebration in 1973. The Spencer Garden Club, Jaycettes, and the Women’s Club,
with the financial help from the Jaycees and the Lions Club, sponsored the
contest for a Queen.
June 28 a Rap Session was held where the candidates were interviewed and a queen
and two runners up were chosen. The first evening of Spencerama Days activities,
June 29, Sue Harrell was crowned Queen, and Jackie Schulz and Lonna Potz were
named runners up. They remained very active during the weekend’s events, and
attended the neighboring towns’ celebrations.
