Rita (Goeler) Holt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Goeler, was one of the first
Spence women to see active military service. As a Registered Nurse, she enlisted
in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II and served for 22 months. By the
time she went overseas in June 1944 she hand been promoted to Lieutenant. During
the 17 months she served in the European Theatre, Lt. Goeler earned the right to
wear the European Theatre ribbon with three campaign stars and the victory
ribbon.
