Burnett, Matilda
Mrs. Erwin R. (Matilda) Burnett, who since February 1974 has been residing at
Colonial House of Colby, celebrated her 95th birthday there January 22. She
welcomed her family and friends from the home with a coffee and cake event. The
open house planned in her honor was cancelled due to the influenza ban of
visitors the past several weeks.
She participates in all activities of the home. On January 23 she was joined by
her daughter and grandsons with their families for a family dinner at the home.
Matilda R. Martens was born to Mr. and Mrs. John Martens January 22, 1888 in the
Town of Unity. She and Erwin R. Burnett were married October 17, 1910 in the
Town of Unity. He died February 17, 1962.
The Burnetts farmed in the Town of Brighton until retiring from farming and
moving to the village of Unity in 1957.
The nonagenarian has a daughter, Mrs. Emory (Pearl) Schulz of Rock Island,
Illinois, two grandsons and three great-grandchildren. She is a member of
Trinity Lutheran Church, Unity.
